Ports

Port wine is produced in a carefully delineated part of the Douro region that extends 100km east of the city of Porto covering an area of 74,130 acres. The vineyard is essentially strewed on terraces, classified according to a quality range that considers the soils' quality, the sun exposure and the varieties of grapes.

Table Wines

Senhora Do Convento produces sensuous red table wines from three claasic Portugeuse varietals: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz. All which are grown on the property. Our table wines are aged in French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks at the winery.

Late Bottle Vintage (LBV)

Our Late Bottled Vintage Ports are solely crafted from grapes grown in an excellent year and are aged between 4 and 6 years in chestnut or oak barrels before being bottled. These fine Ports are characterized by tastes of very mature fruits which will continue to evolve for many years after being bottled.

Tawny Ports

Our Tawny Ports are characterized by flavors of dry fruits, wood and spices. These unique amber coloured ports age in oak barrels slowly get oxidized over a long period of time. Tawnies are created in the traditional style of mixing different wines until the perfect blend is achieved.

Vintage Ports

Our Vintage Ports are a blend of grapes from a superb year and are aged two years before the I.V.P. (Instituto do Vinhos do Porto) give their approval and determine these ports to be from Vintage years.

The color is almost black and it ages for 2 years before being bottled without any kind of filtration. While in their youth, our vintage ports are a powerful wine characterized by a rich color and long lasting flavors. Vintage ports will continue to age for several years.

Table Wines

Our red table wines are a blend of three classic Portuguese varietals: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, grown on the property, and are aged in French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks at the winery.

Tasting notes:
Very dark color. Intense nose of ripe, black berries, oak, vanilla and pepper aromas. Concentrated mouth withgood structure and well balanced final with strong ripe tannins. Serve at 16ºC.

Ruby Ports

Grapes from these vines and vineyards are traditionally younger.

Tasting notes:
Dark ruby color with notes of red fruit, slightly peppery flavors and some oak / spicy. The palate is fresh, round and supple with light finish. Serve slightly chilled as an aperitif or with desserts containing red fruits (currants, raspberries, plums). Serve at 16ºC.

Our 40 year old tawnies are wines that have a great aging potential, are complex and are highly aromatic.

Tasting notes:
Highly developed color, mocha with light green reflections. The nose stands out for its intensity and aromatic complexity as coffee, honey, wood, spices, orange peel and dried fruit. The palate is very concentrated with a very long finish on the notes of dried fruit, timber and coffee. Ideal after a meal, as a digestive or a cigar. Serve at 16 º C.

Vintage Ports

These high quality vintage ports are of a dense and deeply rich colour with intense aromas of ripe black fruits (black cherries, blackberries, blueberries) associated with vegetal notes.

Tasting notes:
The palate is concentrated, round and black fruits emerge. Well balanced sugar /alcohol and long finish of firm tannins. Vintage ports can be laid down for several years or enjoyed immediately.

Production:
Fermentation of grapes without de-stemming, in stainless steel tanks with temperature control and frequentpumping over to extract color and tannins. The addition of the water of life is done several times to slow the fermentation and increase the extraction of tannins.
